Kevin E. Newsome

Kevin has been specializing in children and family portraiture for nearly 30 years. His simplistic style of photography reflects his down to earth style of life. His seminar is a reality based program meant to provide the audience with workable and easily implemented ideas.

He’s a Past President of the Florida Professional Photographers (2001) and the Tampa Area Professional Photographers Association (2003), and is currently serving as Vice President of the Southeastern Professional Photographers Association. Kevin earned his PPA Certification in 1999 and his Craftsman in 2001.

Kevin has given seminars at state and national conventions in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Colorado, Hawaii, and spoken at schools in California, New Jersey, Georgia, and South Carolina.

His book titled “Children’s Portrait Photography – A Photojournalistic Approach” is scheduled to be released by Amherst Media in July of 2007.

“Kids & Families - Getting Casual”

Photographing children in a studio environment doesn’t have to be a canned experience netting stiff poses and unnatural expressions. Kids can twist their own faces and bend their own bodies into positions and looks that we could never dream up on our own. Why not take advantage of this fact and capture your little subjects doing what comes naturally – being kids!

Much of what today’s moms are looking for in images of their children is the reality of them – not a contrived interpretation of them. Learning how to prompt children into being themselves in front of your lens and provide today’s moms with that “photojournalistic” look they’re looking for is what this class is about.

Kevin’s goal is to unveil the natural expressions and body language that children possess, add a classical lighting touch, and close the sale with an upbeat, professional sales presentation.

A week with Kevin will provide you with a detailed look into what has kept Newsome’s Studio at the front of the pack of family studios in the Tampa area. Everything is up for grabs, including Marketing, Lighting, Sales, Workflow, Hot Products, Camera Room Tricks, and his own special brand of “Anti-Posing” when working with children. Plenty of time will also be devoted to Families and Environmental sessions.

A highlight of the week will be a real-time Sales Presentation with the parents of one or more of our models. This will give you an unscripted look at how Kevin handles the sales presentation with someone who has an emotional attachment to the images, far from the roll-playing scenario typically demonstrated in a classroom environment.

Summed up, Kevin’s goal is to give every student the kind of eye-opening “ah-ha’s” that you can quickly and easily take back and implement into your business model right away.
